What are the benefits of yoga?
Yoga builds strength, improves flexibility, muscle tone, posture and calms the mind. Regular practice develops awareness and concentration and promotes general wellbeing.
I have an injury or other health problems, does yoga help?
Many students start practising with back pain or other common ailments and find yoga helps. Please inform me of any injuries or health problems when you enrol in a block of classes. For more serious injuries speak to me about the option of a specialised remedial yoga class at the Hobart Iyengar Yoga school.
Do I need to bring my own mat?
No. All equipment is provided although you are welcome to bring your own mat if you prefer.
What should I wear?
Clothes that allow you to move freely. Avoid baggy or loose clothing: it is important that I can see your feet and knees. Shorts or leggings and a t-shirt is most practical. Yoga is always practised with bare feet.
What age do I need to be?
Classes are suitable from adolescence onwards.
Do I need to book?
Yes, please fill in the enrolment form if you are interested in attending a class.
Can I eat or drink water before a yoga class?
Yoga should be practised on an empty stomach, therefore leave 3-4 hours after a main meal or 2 hours after a light snack. You will not need to drink water during the class as this can interfere with the natural digestion process. Come to the class well hydrated.
I am pregnant, can I practise yoga?
Yes however you should contact me for an appropriate class.
